Brookfield Properties wanted to share light and give warmth this holiday season. They worked with Volunteers of America to gather donated clothing used in this dynamic installation in Tysons Galleria, choosing a candle as a prominent symbol for all cultures and religions during the holidays. Artist Noah Scalin used thousands of pieces of clothing to create this masterpiece for all to enjoy.
Noah Scalin is a Richmond, VA based artist who’s work asks us to take notice of quotidian moments. By using everyday items, including mass produced consumer goods, in his photographs, installations, and sculptures, he asks the viewer to recontextualize the ‘things’ in their lives that are normally taken for granted, overlooked or discarded. His work narrates the potential long-term impact of humans and their creations, giving the audience an opportunity to shift their ‘thing-ethos’ from linear to cyclical.
